The stone is durable but not immortal — a century and a half of weather and coal smoke, followed by decades of cement pointing, leaves walls that need reading carefully rather than glancing at.

The area also shares the coalfield inheritance of its Wakefield neighbours, so movement history questions come up regularly — usually with reassuring answers, occasionally not. Either way, you want the answer based on crack patterns and evidence, not on a postcode reputation.
