Advice while work happens

Reinstatement management

Winning the insurance claim is only half the battle. Then your home has to actually be rebuilt — contractors chosen, works sequenced, quality checked, payments staged — usually while you are living in temporary accommodation and just want your life back.

Quality is checked before work disappears and before the next payment gate.

What the service is really for

Reinstatement project management puts a construction professional in your corner for that whole process. Jarelle Mills is a Chartered Construction Manager (MCIOB) with years spent running contracting operations and handling complex insurance reinstatements — which means knowing how building works should be run, and all the ways they quietly go wrong when nobody independent is watching.

From agreeing the final scope through to snagging and sign-off, the job is simple to state: get your home rebuilt properly, to the agreed scope, without you having to become a construction expert overnight.

01 / FIT

Who this service is for

  • Homeowners with an agreed insurance settlement facing a rebuild they don’t feel equipped to run
  • Policyholders taking a cash settlement who need the works scoped, tendered and managed
  • Anyone whose insurer-appointed contractor has failed, stalled or been dismissed part-way through
  • Owners who simply want independent oversight of a reinstatement the insurer is managing
02 / OUTPUT

What the service covers

  • Confirming the reinstatement scope before works start, so nothing is missed or quietly value-engineered away
  • Obtaining and comparing contractor quotes on a like-for-like basis, and advising on selection
  • Programme and sequencing oversight — the right trades, in the right order, for the right reasons
  • Staged quality inspections during the works, with issues raised while they are still easy to fix
  • Valuing works done before you release staged payments, so money never runs ahead of progress
  • Snagging inspection and final sign-off against the agreed scope

From question to answer

How it works

One named surveyor. One clear brief. No handover to a report factory.

  1. 01

    Scope and plan

The agreed reinstatement scope is reviewed and confirmed, gaps flagged, and the works packaged so contractors can price them properly.

  2. 02

    Contractor selection

Quotes are obtained and compared like-for-like, references and insurances checked, and a recommendation made — the decision stays yours.

  3. 03

    Works oversight

Staged site inspections at the points that matter — before things get covered up, not after. You get short written updates in plain English after each visit.

  4. 04

    Completion and sign-off

A snagging inspection, a defects list the contractor works through, and final sign-off against the scope before the last payment is released.

Before you instruct

Keep decisions moving without becoming the project manager.

Clear scope now prevents disappointment later. If another service—or no paid service—is the better answer, that is what you will hear.

My insurer wants to use its own contractors. Can you still be involved?

Yes. Even where the insurer manages the works, you are entitled to satisfy yourself about quality. Independent staged inspections and a snagging report give you evidence, not just unease, if standards slip — and insurers respond to documented defects far faster than to complaints.

I’ve taken a cash settlement. Where do I start?

With the scope. Before any contractor is approached, the reinstatement scope is confirmed so that quotes are complete and comparable. Tendering from a defined scope is the single biggest protection a cash-settled policyholder has.

What if the contractor and I disagree mid-project?

That is much of the point of independent oversight: disagreements get resolved by reference to the agreed scope and proper standards, documented in writing, rather than by whoever argues loudest on site.

How much of my time will this take?

As little as you want. Most clients settle into a rhythm of a short update after each inspection and a decision from you only when one is genuinely needed — contractor selection, colour and finish choices, payment releases.
