Advice while work happens

Building advice sessions

Not every property question needs a forty-page report. Sometimes you need an experienced person to look at the photographs, read the quote, visit the room or talk through the options before you make an expensive decision.

Start with the question. Pay only for the depth needed to answer it.

What the service is really for

Building advice sessions are deliberately proportionate: a scheduled call for documents and photographs that can be understood remotely, or a focused site visit when the building itself needs to be seen. The question is agreed first and the fixed fee matches the depth needed to answer it.

You get a straight professional view, the reasoning behind it and a short written summary of next steps. If the question genuinely needs a survey, investigation or specialist design, the session identifies that early instead of pretending a quick opinion can do more than it can.

Use the smallest intervention that unlocks the decision.

Questions that suit an advice session

  • Choosing the right survey level for an unusual purchase
  • Understanding a survey report, contractor quote or repair proposal you already have
  • Deciding whether a visible issue justifies a full defect investigation
  • Planning the sequence of maintenance or a modest renovation
  • Getting a second pair of professional eyes before accepting expensive work
02 / OUTPUT

What you receive

  • A defined question and agreed call or visit format before booking
  • Review of the relevant photographs, quotation, report or correspondence
  • A focused conversation or site inspection with time for your questions
  • A brief written summary of the advice and sensible next steps
  • An honest recommendation if a deeper service is—or is not—worth commissioning

From question to answer

Start with the question, not the product

One named surveyor. One clear brief. No handover to a report factory.

  1. 01

    Send the question

Describe the decision you are facing and attach the documents or photographs that make it easier to understand.

  2. 02

    Choose call or visit

You are told whether the question can be answered remotely or whether seeing the property is genuinely necessary, with a fixed fee for either route.

  3. 03

    Talk it through

The session stays focused on the real decision, with jargon translated and assumptions tested.

  4. 04

    Written next steps

A short email records the advice, what to do next and whether any formal investigation is justified.

Before you instruct

Start proportionately. Escalate only when the evidence asks.

Clear scope now prevents disappointment later. If another service—or no paid service—is the better answer, that is what you will hear.

Can you advise from photographs?

Often, when the question is about a quotation, report or visible detail. Photographs cannot establish every cause, so you will be told before booking if a site visit is necessary.

Will I receive anything in writing?

Yes. A brief email records the main advice and next steps. If you need a formal report for an insurer, solicitor or dispute, that is a separate instruction and will be scoped clearly.

Can the session turn into a survey later?

Yes. If the discussion identifies a question that needs inspection or evidence, you can commission the appropriate service separately without repeating the whole background.
